Fire Safety Reminder for College Students and Landlords

On the upcoming anniversary of the tragic Fatal Fire on Fairview avenue in the Town of Poughkeepsie ( 1/22/12), The City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department is urging all college students and landlords of college students residing in the City of Poughkeepsie to make sure all Fire Safety rules and regulations pertaining to student housing and New York State Fire and Safety codes are being observed by both students and Landlords. This includes smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in all living and sleeping areas. Fire extinguishers in all cooking and heating areas, self closing doors where required, no supplemental heating units such as kerosene or electric to supplement heat systems.

This reminder is for the safety of our college students and the public. Please do not let another tragedy take place by ignoring fire safety guidelines and laws.
