City to Break Ground on New Transit Hub

The City of Poughkeepsie will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM for the new Transit Hub to be constructed south of Financial Plaza Deck on Civic Center Plaza. This project is being constructed using funds provided by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The Transit Hub will serve City of Poughkeepsie shoppers, students, commuters and tourists using the Dutchess County Loop and intercity buses. This new facility will provide passenger loading areas off Market Street and feature drainage, pavement and utility improvements as well as enhanced lighting, landscaping and security. The Transit Hub will include passenger shelters, communications, transportation service monitors and other amenities.

Mayor Tkazyik said, “This will be a wonderful project for our City and a step forward in downtown revitalization and economic development.  It will truly enhance the transportation experience in Poughkeepsie and serve a myriad of riders.  The hub will be a beautiful part of the City’s landscape in our continually improving downtown area.”
