The City of Poughkeepsie is accepting applications for the position of Commissioner of Public Works until March 7, 2014. The City of Poughkeepsie, a municipality of 32,736 residents, is located in Dutchess County, New York State.
The Commissioner of Public reports directly to the City Administrator and is responsible for the operation of the Department of Public Works, which includes highways, buildings, parks, engineering, water/sewer and sanitation. Important contacts are encountered both within and outside the organization on all matters pertaining to Public Works. Supervision is exercised over a large number of clerical, administrative, labor group and professional personnel which comprise the staff of the Department of Public Works.
The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or an equivalent degree AND: six (6) years of experience in the field of civil engineering which must have included three years of experience primarily concerned with highway engineering or design and construction of buildings. Those with a P.E. license are encouraged to apply.
Residency is required within six (6) months. Starting salary will range from $75,000-$85,000 depending on experience and qualifications. The City offers an excellent benefit package.
