Police - Community Policing Unit
The Community Policing Unit (CPU) consists of one Lieutenant, two Sergeants, and sworn officers to cover the City’s community policing beats, and Park Enforcement. All beat officers are certified in police mountain bike patrol. They also assist neighborhoods in forming block watches, community meetings, and problem solving.
The mission of the Community Policing Unit, in partnership with the community, is to protect life and property, to understand and serve the needs of the City’s neighborhoods, and to improve the quality of life by utilizing those capacities needed to maintain order, resolve problems and apprehend criminals in a manner consistent with the law and reflective of shared community values.
The CPU also provides crime prevention assistance and training to the City’s residents, interfacing traditional crime prevention ideals with the problem solving aspect of community policing. The Community Policing Unit has contributed greatly in the turnaround of the Main Street corridor, which had previously been plagued with violent crime. CPU provides an aggressive approach to crime prevention and law enforcement by working closely with our community stakeholders to better our neighborhoods.
