Police - Detectives Divison
The Detective Division is made up of 1 Detective Lieutenant, 2 Detective Sergeants, and Detectives. Detectives are assigned to adult criminal investigations, juvenile investigations, evidence custodian and the Dutchess County Drug Task Force. There are also civilian personnel assigned to the Detective Division; such as Juvenile Justice Specialist, Youth Worker, Evidence Assistant and Police Aides. These employees provide support services in areas of clerical duties, data entry, and crime analysis.

All Detectives begin their careers in the patrol division. Officer are selected to become detectives based upon seniority, experience as crime scene investigators, report writing skills, communication skills, knowledge of laws, interview skills, and their overall proficiency and conduct as police officers. All members of the Detective Division are required to complete a criminal investigators curriculum where they receive training in interview techniques, photography, investigation techniques, juvenile laws, homicide investigation, case management and other specialized areas of training. Detectives also keep their skills sharp by attending seminars throughout their careers.

Detectives investigate crimes from Petit Larcenies to Homicides. In January 2001 Detectives solved a homicide through DNA found at the crime scene. This is believed to be the first such case in the area. Detectives can be reached at 451-4142.
