Introduction to Careers in Law Enforcement
The New York State Office of Children and Family Services working with the State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association, Inc. and the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department has implemented the Introduction to Careers in Law Enforcement (CILE). This program is designed to introduce young men and women to the various careers in the law enforcement field. There are two 14-session cycles in the fall and spring of each school year. There are three components to the curriculum, Career Awareness, Career Exploration and Career Opportunities. The course is available to juniors and seniors in area high schools. It is anticipated that within this context the CILE program will enhance the number of youth interested in a career in law enforcement. This will increase the hiring potential of young people by federal, state, county, and local law enforcement agencies and improve relations between youth and law enforcement personnel. The CILE program is conducted and supervised by members of the department.

P.A.L.
The City of Poughkeepsie PAL was adopted in the mid 1950’s and is a Non-Profit organization funded solely on donations. It exists to enhance youth life through the introduction of sports to their lives. We feel that every youth in the City of Poughkeepsie is entitled to a childhood and the availablity to participate in athletic programs. This acts to enrich the relationship between youth of all ages and the police department. Our mission is to decrease the number of youth involved in criminal activity and to increase their involvement in programs that have a positive impact on their lives. We accomplish this by sponsoring and implementing programs. We also recognize the academic and athletic achievements of our local students through scholarships and sponsorships that enhance their abilities.
