POUGHKEEPSIE

Mayor
As Mayor of the City of Poughkeepsie, the Queen City of the Hudson River, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our City and our web site. We hope you will find much here to help you enjoy Poughkeepsie and use the services of City government to your best advantage.

Our web site is designed to provide you with easily accessible information on the services provided by City government. It also contains information about area attractions and investment opportunities.

City government pages include information on all the services we provide, from building permits to marriage licenses. You’ll also find detailed information on garbage pick-up, leaf removal, street repairs, building permits, planning applications, marriage licenses, dog licenses, birth and death certificates, community event applications, and more.

Our Development Office provides a wealth of information regarding business opportunities, including financing and tax incentives for new and expanding businesses, attractive investment opportunities, and Properties for Sale.

The Citizen Observer Alert Network allows the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department to instantly update you about crimes, emergencies and other important information. All alerts are delivered via e-mail and are also available via text message on your cell phone.

Elected for a four-year term, the Mayor serves as the Chief Executive of the City. The Mayor appoints the City Administrator, City Chamberlain, and City Judges. Other duties include approving or disapproving laws proposed by the Common Council, proposing a City budget to the Common Council, and serving as the City’s chief ceremonial representative.
