Police - Neighborhood Recovery Unit
One of the Neighborhood Recovery Units functions, is to improve the quality of life throughout the City of Poughkeepsie by targeting drug trafficking and prostitution brought to its attention by citizens complaints, Patrol’s information and by the unit members direct observation. The unit uses a variety of strategies to combat both the supply and the demand side of narcotics and prostitution. N.R.U. also utilizes the Community Policing Unit and the Patrol Division. The Neighborhood Recovery Unit also directs its attention to ‘quality of life’ issues by enforcing open container violations, loitering, marijuana possession and vehicle and traffic issues. Members work either in plain cloths or uniform, depending on assignment. When necessary, the Unit will supplement the patrol force to handle excessive radio calls by assisting patrol with their duties at accidents or crime scenes. The work hours are varied, and the Officers assigned to the unit are all skillful and dedicated to performing above average and producing quality results.
