Recycling, Sanitation, & Transfer Station
This section of DPW keeps the city clean by providing twice weekly residential curb-side collections and once a week recycling collections including yard debris for city residents. It is also responsible for street sweeping and the enforcement of sanitation ordinances. In addition, it operates the City of Poughkeepsie Transfer Station, Bulk Service Program, and Composting Facility. The Composting Facility provides free compost to city residents.
New Ordinance - Curbside Collection
Beginning June 15, 2010, all garbage must contained in plastic bags and properly stored in a watertight container with a lid.

Transfer Station - Hours of Operation
Effective March 15, 2010:
- Monday - Friday: 7am - 1:30pm
- Saturday:8:00am - 12:30am
- Sunday: Closed
- Closed all City Holidays
Disposing of Hazardous Household Waste
Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency is a public benefit corporation created by the New York State Legislature for the purpose of providing solid waste management services for Dutchess County.
Good management of our solid waste (garbage & recyclables) affects every person in our County. DCRRA oversees a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) for our recyclables and a Waste-to-Energy Power Plant for our garbage. The Agency sponsors annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days for toxic and electronic waste.
