Police - Training and Development
The Police Department maintains a full time Training Development Division for our personnel.
The Training and Development Division is comprised of one Sergeant and one police assistant. This division provides ongoing in-service and field training to our officers to insure they are kept up-to-date on the latest in law enforcement methods and safety. This division is directly responsible for all academy recruits until completion of field training.
The Training Division also provides and co-sponsors training to other area departments and civic groups in law enforcement.
The Training Division also ensures that recent developments in the ever-changing world of law enforcement are integrated into the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
The Police Department employs a full-time grant writer, who is supervised by the Training and Development Division. Our grant writer secures funds from local, state, and federal sources. These funds are used for both equipment and personnel, which greatly offsets the burden to our taxpayers.
An additional aspect of the Training and Development Division is to research, develop and update department rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
