Mayor Rob Rolison has won election to the State Senate and his two-year term will begin in January.
Per the rules of the City’s Charter, City Administrator Marc Nelson will become mayor once Mayor Rolison resigns to assume his Senate duties.
Nelson will become mayor in January and will finish Rolison’s second term in office, which will be completed at the end of 2023. A new mayor will be elected during the 2023 election and will take office at the beginning of 2024.
Mayor Rolison said, "I want to thank the City of Poughkeepsie administration team — especially City Administrator Nelson — for the excellent work they have done to get the city back on its feet and to bolster essential city services and to continue to put additional resources into key programs and initiatives.
“I will vacate the mayor’s position knowing full well the city is in tremendously capable hands with Marc Nelson at the helm. I look forward to continuing my work with Marc and the City Staff as I represent the city and the rest of my district in the State Senate."
"I congratulate Mayor Rolison on his election to the State Senate and appreciate his confidence in me to assume the duties of mayor once he resigns to begin his first term as a State Senator," City Administrator Nelson said.
“I look forward to the opportunity as mayor to build on the progress made since Mayor Rolison took office in 2016, and to continuing to lead an extraordinary team of dedicated public servants who make up our city workforce.”
