Children at a Bardavon event

In 2022 the City of Poughkeepsie Youth Grant Program funded 31 youth grant programs, awarding a total of $339,000.00 to youth services across the city. Funded programs included activities in art, media, STEM, sports, gardening, summer camps, and more. The City of Poughkeepsie worked diligently to ensure grant recipients received support needed in order to succeed. Their success is the youth’s success. Below is a summary of each funded program, with results made evident in the youth’s laughter, engagement and enthusiasm shown in the images below.

Bardavon

The Bardavon Opera House, Inc. established since 1869. Through the City’s grant this year’s offerings included Hip Hop Theatre from May 16 – June 6th (in-school work shops where 6th graders study poetry, lettering, and music to connect with the rhythms of their bodies and explore the art of the written and spoken word). Circus in School program was offered from May 16-20. The 5th graders were introduced to circus skills and encouraged to use their imaginations, share ideas, keep practicing, and not give up on themselves. The Circus performance occurred on May 20th at Morse Elementary School.

Poughkeepsie High School Men's Basketball

Youth Grant funds supported the Poughkeepsie High School men’s basketball program through funding for travel tournaments, transportation, and travel gear and equipment. Coach Moffet says “It has been with Basketball, that we have had tremendous success helping these student athletes of Poughkeepsie find their purpose and drive.” And “Each tournament has a great impact and influence to help our youth prepare for College Basketball.”
