IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
Town of Poughkeepsie & City of Poughkeepsie Failed to Meet Public Water System Requirements
Our water system recently violated a drinking water requirement. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation.
The New York State Sanitary Code requires certain water systems to develop and keep up to date water supply emergency plans which includes an analysis of vulnerability to cyber-attack. These plans must be submitted to the New York State Department of Health for review and approval. At least once every five years. Our water system was issued a violation on July 20, 2022, for not submitting our analysis of vulnerability to cyberattack. Our system did not take the required corrective actions required by the New York State Department of Health and was issued a second violation on January 10, 2023. We are required to issue this public notification to inform you of the second violation.
What should I do?
There is nothing you need to do. You do not need to boil your water or take any other corrective actions. You may continue to drink the water. If a situation arises where the water is no longer safe to drink, you will be notified within 24 hours.
What does this mean?
This is not an emergency. If it had been an emergency, you would have been notified within 24 hours.
What is being done?
The analysis was completed and filed with the County of Dutchess Department of Behavioral & Community Health on January 19, 2023. The violation was closed out by the New York State Department of Health on January 24, 2023.
