The city Police Department responded to a report of a suicidal male near the Mid-Hudson Bridge entrance late Monday afternoon.
Multiple officers responded to the area of the bridge and located the subject in distress who upon observing the approaching police vehicles, jumped out of his vehicle and ran to and climbed on a bridge girder.
The bridge was closed to all traffic.
Through the effective and coordinated efforts of the officers, and hostage negotiators, a successful intervention occurred, and the individual was transported and turned over to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for treatment.
City of Poughkeepsie Police Marine Services were utilized, and the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department and Dutchess County Sheriffs Office Marine services were placed in standby status. Thanks to all who helped with this outcome!
