The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department would like to announce the formation of and launching of the Juvenile Intervention Program.
Through a collaboration of community partners, the weekly program will focus on providing youth with life and job skills, educational and employment opportunities, and array of resources including resources to address mental health issues.
The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department has been analyzing some violent trends in the City among our youth and would like to mitigate this violence through a proactive community collaborative. Bringing juveniles together with available and necessary resources that can reduce and eliminate at risk juvenile with criminal consequence is our goal.
Working throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Juvenile Division and our community partners to include the City of Poughkeepsie School District, Dutchess County Attorney’s Office, Dutchess County Probation, Mental Health America of Dutchess County, Nubian Directions, Beulah Baptist Church, Child Advocacy Center of Dutchess County, Hudson River Housing, the Center for Victims Safety and Support (Family Services), Dutchess County Regional Chamber Foundation, Planned Parenthood, SNUG and the Child Abuse Prevention Center, Child Protective Services have been planning and discussing intervention of at risk juveniles for immediate referral to an array of available services. Although challenging since the pandemic, there have been some early signs of potential success in our collaborative intervention.
